Buying a butterfly kit and watching them grow, cocoon, hatch ( right term?), and fly away is awesome and disgusting all rolled into one. I didn't realize how neat a cocoon looks up close. It has so many iridescent colors. When they hatch though...yuck. They wiggle out and red, blood-like fluid spews out on the netting cage they are in. Supposedly it's not blood...it's leftover caterpillar things and colors the butterfly's don't need. Yum.
The cocoons....the container the caterpillars come in has all the food they need. You literally do NOTHING.

Hatching time...they have been moved to their net cage thingy.

Release time....couldn't get a pic of them flying away. The suckers are fast.

Here is one in the grass.

I think I found it more interesting than Sadie did. But all in all it was fun. I tried to do something educational...tried :) Maybe next year we will hatch baby chicks!

You have to tell me where you got that kit!! So fun!
And my mom totally hatched chicks with us. So fun until they turned into big nasty chickens that we didn't know what to do with. Thankfully some animal got them in the middle of the night! haha. (and gross).
You're such a fun mom, Jenn!!!
love the narration lol... looks like a lot of fun, very creative!
